Marco Odermatt wins his second GS of the season
Dec 13, 2021·Alpine SkiingWith a week of heavy snowfall, even until the early hours of Saturday morning, conditions on “La Face” were looking dubious. However, due to a great effort put in by the organising committee, today's giant slalom got the green light to go ahead.
Marco Odermatt (SUI) entered the race with already one win after winning in Sölden (AUT). In today’s race he kept the momentum going. After the first run, he held a 0.32 second lead on French skier, Alexis Pinturault. The fight for second place in the first run was very close between the Frenchman and the Croatian, Filip Zubčić, with only 0.01 seconds splitting them.
It was going to be a tough fight between the three top-placed skiers as they were all looking to be on top form after the first run. Zubčić missed a gate, knocking him out of contention and giving Austrian Manuel Feller the podium, ending in third place.
Odermatt was again nearly flawless in the second run, easily holding on for the win with a 0.59 seconds ahead of Pinturault.
Racing continues at 09:30 CET on Sunday 12 December on “La Face” with the opening slalom event of the season.
