Hirscher aims to return to World Cup representing Netherlands

Marcel Hirscher aims to return to Alpine Skiing next season – wearing the colour of his mother's home country - the Netherlands.

Record overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher, who ended his career 5 years ago racing for Austria, announced this morning his sensational comeback to alpine ski racing at the age of 35. 

Marcel Hirscher has shaped the sport of skiing like no other in recent decades. His retirement in September 2019 was a turning point in the Alpine Ski World Cup. 

Over the last few years, Marcel has continued to train on skis. He harbours a steadfast ambition to ascend once more to the pinnacle of his sport. He diligently prepares, setting his sights on the grand stage of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm 2025 World Championships. Fuelled by passion and determination, Marcel strives to reclaim his place among the elite.

In accordance with FIS rule 203.5, Hirscher’s application to change his FIS Licence Registration will be considered by the FIS Council at its spring meeting, at which Hirscher must have met all of the criteria to change his FIS license to another country. 

In fact, Marcel Hirscher has won everything there is to win in skiing and set a series of records. He has won the overall World Cup eight times in a row, the small crystal globe in slalom and giant slalom six times each, 67 World Cup victories, 138 podium places, two Olympic gold medals and one silver.
