Maria Tviberg says goodbye

Maria Tviberg (NOR) is retiring from active alpine skiing.

‘I'm grateful for everything I've experienced as an athlete and that I managed to achieve what I did. Of course, I'm going to miss the girls and the team around the national alpine team, and performing every weekend throughout the winter. Today, I'm proud to have made this choice - to quit, and I'm also proud that I didn't quit before, I've experienced so much, especially in the last years of my career.

A career studded with injuries but also with great achievements, Maria became world champion in parallel giant slalom in 2023, and was also part of the silver team in team parallel at the same championships in Meribel, France. Tviberg was also on the bronze team at the 2018 Beijing Olympics in the same event, and she has a career-best fifth place in the World Cup in Soelden 2021.

- Maria has performed at the top level in all disciplines over a period of around 10 years. Maria's career has been characterised by many serious injuries, but the way she has dealt with them and come back is impressive. We will miss Maria's energy and determination, and wish her all the best for the future,’ says Claus Johan Ryste, Head of Alpine Skiing at the Norwegian Ski Association.
