START OF THE SPORTING CAREER

• Rønning was pretty much born with skis on his feet like most Norwegians
• Rønning was a very active kid, he played football, did athletics and orienteering
• At the age of 16 he started to study at the ski academy in Meråker

CAREER

• Appearance at the FIS Nordic Junior World Championships in Karpacz in 2001 and in Schonach 2002
• First World Cup in Otepää 2003
• In 2005 he claimed his first World Cup podium and the first World Cup victory in Reit im Winkl
• The biggest individual success has been the silver medal in15 km classic at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2011
• Bronze medal in sprint at the World Championships in Sapporo in 2007
• Four World Championships titles in 4x10 km relay in Sapporo, Liberec, Oslo and Val di Fiemme

PERSONAL

• Eldar Roenning has two siblings, Bernhard (three years younger) and Ragne (seven years younger)
• He speaks Norwegian, English, and German
• His favorite sports are running, football, and mountain climbing
• He is married to Laila Selbæk Rønning. IN 2009 they became parents of a daughter
• He studies economics in Trondheim
• Kuusamo is his favorite course
• Canada is one of his favorite foreign countries
