Tim Tscharnke announced retirement

German Cross-Country Skier Tim Tscharnke decided to end his professional skiing career. This spring in March he informed on his website he wanted to compete one more season. However, last Thursday he posted on his Facebook, that he will finish his career already now.

“I realised it is impossible to come back to the World elite. I had to admit to myself that my body can no longer keep up with the training volume of the good years. It is impossible for me to compete with the strong international field on equal terms. Especially my back and my feet had to get treatment between every training camp so that I am able to carry out the training plan.”

German Cross-Country Skiing has lost with with Tscharnke’s retirement a strong skier for the upcoming years. Tscharnke was the last German skier to win a World Cup competition. In 2015 he won 15 km Mass Start Classic in Val di Fiemme. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver Tscharnke and Teichmann won silver medal in team sprint. Later on, Tscharnke was struck by many health problems.
