Alexander Bolshunov (RUS) is a league of his own. The current Overall World Cup leader wins with a margin of 32 seconds to his team colleagues Andrey Melnichenko and Artem Maltsev. Bolshunov marks his strength impressively in this World Championships season on the course where he claimed his first distance World Cup podium three years ago.

“Alexander started really hard and was already 16 seconds ahead in the first loop. So I understood that it’s a fight for the second and third place. After the first loop I could go with Ivan Yakimushkin and we pushed each other.”

Indeed, Ivan Yakimushkin was a contender for the podium spots but did not keep his pace in the third and final lap, missing therefore the podium by 6.6 seconds.
