Cross-Country Team selections for Beijing 2022
Jan 31, 2022·Cross-CountryThe Olympic Winter Games of Beijing 2022 will go underway shortly. National Olympic Committees have selected their athletes for the upcoming competitions that will take place from 5th to 20th February (click here for the full Cross-Country schedule at the Winter Olympic Games).
FIS Cross-Country will publish a team a day and extend this article in order to get an overview of the competitors of the biggest teams on the Olympic stage.
Congratulations already now to all selected athletes for reaching one of the highest achievements for a sports professional: being selected to participate at the Winter Olympic Games and good luck for your endeavors.
TEAM SLOVENIA
Team Slovenia has hit the podiums of the World Cup and World Championships in the past four years remarkably. Can the team show their talents and skills also on the worlds largest sporting stage? Eight athletes will be representing Poland in Cross-Country skiing - including Monika Skinder as the current Junior Sprint World Champion, Weronika Kaleta as the Junior Sprint Bronze medalist and of course young talent Izabela Marcisz, the current U23 10km World Champion. TEAM CZECH REPUBLIC
After confirmation by the Czech Olympic Committee, the Czech Ski Team is Zhangjiakou bound with ten athletes in total. The team is currently in 11th position in the world Nations ranking in Cross-Country and has its eyes set on various top-10 finishes.

The Board of the Finnish Olympic Committee confirmed the final Olympic selections. Finland will be represented at Beijing 2022 by a total of 95 athletes and a quota of 13 athletes are selected for the Cross-Country competitions. Among the athletes are title defenders such as Iivo Niskanen, Olympic gold medalist of the 50km C Mst and Krista Pärmäkoski, Olympic bronze medalist in Skiathlon, 10km F ind. Start and silver medalist in the 30km Mst.

Under the lead four-time Olympic champion Dario Cologna, the Swiss Team is ready and Beijing 2022 bound. With a quota of 14 athletes, six women and eight men have been selected by Swiss Olympic. Jason Rüesch claimed the last spot in the team with his victory in the 30km Mass start at Oberstodorf’s COC.

With the selections of the 29 year-old Olivia Bouffard Nesbitt and 21 year-old Rémi Drolet, the Cross-Country team that will represent Canada at the Olympic Winter Games is complete and ready to be confirmed by the Canadian Olympic Committee. A total of five women and four men will be heading to Beijing.

TEAM USA
The line-up of the U.S. Olympic Cross-Country Team brings out a total of 10 first-time Olympians to Beijing 2022. In 2018, Jessie Diggins and Kikkan Randall made history by winning USA’s first-ever Olympic gold in Cross-Country skiing. Ever since, along with Olympic Winter Games proven Rosie Brennan and Scott and Caitlin Patterson, Jessie Diggins has shared her experience with her younger team colleagues who now will step on the worlds largest sporting stage and the team is looking into claiming more Olympic podiums and to repeat their great performances that they showed along the World Cup and title events.

With a quota of five women and eight men, the French Olympic Committee has selected their complete Cross-Country team representing France at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022.
Not only podium places in the Mens Relay and the Mens Teamsprint are to be defended. The successes in the Sprint competitions but also various Distance formats sice the last Olympic Games promise to become successful events during this upcoming February.

Of the 14 athletes, only a few bring in experiences from previous Olympic Games already. But the team that has brought up a number of athletes reporting into top positions in Cross-Country skiing in recent years, is ready to introduce a new generation of skiers to the Olympics.

RUSSIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ATHLETES
Within Team ROC (Russian Olympic Committee), athletes have been selected for the Olympic Winter Games who dominated international racing in recent years. All up front Alexander Bolshunov, who won the Overall World Cup twice in a row and brought the Distance World Cup globe home after the past three seasons. Will the 25 year-old be able to fight for Olympic Gold? A strong competitor field already awaits in the own rows. Denis Spitsov has his eyes set to repeat his Olympic medals of 2018 but also Yulia Stupak and Natalia Nepryaeva have proven to be in top shape for the events on the worlds largest sporting stage.

TEAM NORWAY
The home country of the most successful winter Olympian of all times - Marit Bjørgen - faced another challenging selection process due to a huge line-up and constant top results of Norwegian athletes. After the first selection on 20th December, the final two spots for each – the womens and mens team – were announced on 10th January by the Norwegian Olympic Committee. With Anne Kjersti Kalvå and Mathilde Skjærdalen Myhrvold, two rookies at Olympic Winter Games claimed the final spots in the womens team and with Sjur Røthe and Pål Golberg, two medal-event-proven athletes complete the mens team.
