Maja Dahlqvist on the fast lane in Lillehammer

The FIS Cross-Country World Cup reports back to the Birkebeineren area in Lillehammer (NOR) and started the three-day event off with todays Sprint in Free technique. Due to snow conditions in preparation to the event, a new course set was used.
Maja Dahlqvist was once more the fastest woman and was thrilled to continue her winning strike from the World Cup opener in Ruka: “I am happy to be first over the finish line because it was really tight. This season start has been much better than I thought that it will be. But I hope I have an extra level to put in towards the Olympics. We have a really good team but to be a part of the four girls who will race at the Olympics, we have to do good already at the beginning of the season.”
Second over the finish line was last seasons Overall World Cup winner Jessie Diggins. With the 8th fastest time in qualification, Diggins also took a clear win in both, her quarter final and semi final heat. Only in the final, Jessie faced Maja and despite her repeatedly strong performance, was surprised about her final result: “I honestly was not counting to be this good at this point of the season already but I had great skis and I felt great so I gave it all I got.”
A very special milestone in her career was set today by Tiril Udnes Weng. Not only reached the 25 year-young Norwegian her first World Cup podium but also put her eyes on a qualification for the Olympic games. And all of that with the support of her family on site.
