The Rundown - July 17, 2021
Jul 17, 2021·Freeski Park & PipeWelcome back to the Rundown.
Last week we stepped back for a moment after learning of the passing of longtime FIS President Gian Franco Kasper last Saturday. Mr. Kasper served FIS for 46 years, first as Secratary General, then, for the past 23 years, as President, right up until he was succeeded by Johan Eliasch in June, and his legacy will live on long into the future.
You can watch the tribute video we released this week to see just how far FIS Freestyle and Freeski has come with former President Kasper at the helm, here:
With that sad business somewhat overshadowing things this week, let's get back to Rundown business as you know and love it, beginning with a clip that sums up a little bit about what makes freeskiing so great - an incredible skier, pushing things to the limit, and getting hyped up be his friends.
Ladies and gentlemen, Kim Gubser and his switch quad cork from a few months ago....
After we posted David Wise and his coach Mike Riddle getting after it with a slick double line in the pipe at Mt. Hood a few days ago, Dave and Mike threw another ingredient into the mix the next day, with Hunter Hess joining the boys for this insane triple-up...
Speaking of triples and speaking of Hunter Hess - the young man in question just came THIS CLOSE to riding away clean from the first-ever halfpipe triple cork last week at Hood...
The longer clip on YouTube gives you an idea of just how much guts and commitment go into make a dream this gnarly into a reality...
Unreal stuff...maybe we should wind it back to something a little more relatable and/or achievable for the rest of us normies.
Just kidding. Here's Colby Stevenson going berserk in this rail-heavy, heavy rail edit...
And here's Nico Porteous easy stomping a new one that we're pretty sure should be called a Switch dub down the pipe right flat 9? Does that seem right?
Not to be outdone, big bro Miguel got into it with a little newness of his own last week...
Meanwhile, over in the UK, Tyler Harding was captured getting his reps in on the skis AND on the board at the Xscape indoor slope in Yorkshire...
Behind the camera for those clips? None other than Kirsty Muir, who herself just posted a little throwback clip to more wintery times at Copper Mountain from this past season...
Let's switch gears a little bit here and check in on some of the summertime fun that Berkely Brown and the rest of the Canadian moguls squad is having at Whistler right now...
Speaking of switching it up, Australian moguls queen Britt Cox might be looking to expand her medal hopes as we head towards Beijing 2022, sneaking in a little ski cross training between sessions in the bumps...
We've got moguls skiers in the ski cross gate and ski cross athletes out on the pump track, as Andrea Limbacher's lookin' strong in the sun with the blades on...
Speaking of blades, here's 2013 slopestyle World Champion Kaya Turski reliving her glory days with a look back at segment she filmed in California many moons ago...
Let's cool it off after all that hot Cali asphalt with this chilled out clip from the Kazakhstan moguls squad, who look to be boasting what just might be the prettiest water ramp set up anywhere in the world...
More water ramp action, this time from Elliot Vaillancourt, getting in the proper mute tweak on this off-axis 720...
And hey, while we're on the subject of proper tweaks, let's check in on Marin Hamill, dropping a way-too-steezy right 3 nose. Some say she's still holding onto that grab right up until this very moment...
Switching gears yet again, Aspen 2021 double World Champ Eileen Gu just keeps on earning W's, this time by hitting the cover of Vogue Hong Kong. Is there literally anything she ISN'T good at?
He may not be on the cover of a magazine, but he's definitely cheesin'. Andri Ragettli, back on snow just 3.5 months after knee surgery and loving life...
Ok, that's it for this week! As always, thanks for following along, and we'll see ya back here at the Rundown in a few short days.
