The Rundown - June 12, 2021

Welcome to a rare Saturday edition of the Rundown, where once again we're bringing you a buffet of the tastiest content morsels from around the world of freestyle and freeskiing over the past seven-ish days, from Kazakhstan to Copper Mountain and everywhere in between.

Let's kick things off this week with some pure moguls stoke from the US team, who gave us this edit after they wrapped up their May camp at Snowbird resort. Peep the slick throwback outfits, enjoy the party laps the bumps in the sweet spring Utah sunshine, and let Tess Johnson and Nick Page recap how it all went down...

After she finished throwing it back to the 80s in Snowbird with the rest of her team, last season's moguls "Rookie of the Year" Kai Owens got busy looking towards the future, pushing the proggression game with this 1080 mute - inspired, she says, by Japan's moguls top gunner Ikuma Horishima...

Speaking of Ikuma and 1080s, here's the man himself with a slick double corked 10 from sometime earlier in the season...

One more moguls goody before moving on, as Yulia Galysheva dropped this dreamy edit from spring camp back home in Kazakhstan...

Back to the US team for a minute, as last week they were handing out awards to their top athletes of the season.

Winter Vinecki claimed Freestyle Athlete of the Year honours after taking three podiums to finish second overall on the women's aerials 2020/21 World Cup standings, while Colby Stevenson, winner of the Slopestyle and Freeski overall crystal globes, as well as slopestyle silver at the Aspen 2021 World Championships, earned the Freeki Athlete of the Year award...

Colby celebrated his award by gettin' barrelled in Nicaragua, where he's rolling deep with a crew of some of freeskiing's heaviest hitters, including the Porteous bros Nico and Miguel, James "Woodsy" Woods, and Alex Hall...

Valeriya Demidova posted a feel-good clip a couple days ago, of her skying out a steezy one over that picture-perfect pipe in Crans Montana...

However, the clip above is a bit of a throwback, and there's been some bad news from the 2019/20 halfpipe crystal globe winner. Valeriya recently had a pretty heavy slam there in Switzerland while trying to push things forward as she worked towards becoming one of the first women in the world to stomp a double cork in the pipe. Be warned though, the crash is a little bit tough to watch. We're sending big healing vibes Valeriya's way...

Ok, back to happier hits, like Kuura Koivisto goin' absolutely nuts with the switchups on this waterfall rail. One, two, three, four...and then a 450 out? Wild.

Sticking with the Canadians for a second - apparently summer really is upon us if they're officially declaring it to be water ramp season in the Great White North. No snow doesn't equal no go if you've got access to one of these babies...

"No snow = let's go!" - Andri Ragettli (probably)...

We're pretty sure that one's a throwback (obviously), as Andri continues to recover from the knee injury he suffered in Aspen. We're no medical experts, but it seems like hucking yourself around on baby booters and muddy grass isn't one of the prescribed therapy practices.

What else have we got here...oh, how about Mr. Hotlaps getting up close and personal with Quinn Wolferman in Mammoth?

So it turns out there is such a thing as too much steeze (watch to the end)...

Alright, a couple more fun ones to end things off this week. Firstly with Swiss aerials up-and-comer Andrin Schaedler, who's found a way to fulfill his mandatory military requirements in combination with spring training. Honestly the most impressive thing here might just be how quick he moves in those boots....

Shredding after midnight in June, no lights needed? Must be somewhere north of the Arctic circle. Beautiful...

And finally let's check in south of the equator, where Perisher went from early season park lapping with the legend Russell Henshaw...

...to mid-winter powder heaven as a series of systems have brought dump after dump to the aptly-named Snowy Mountains...
