The Rundown - August 21, 2021
Aug 21, 2021·FreestyleHappy Saturday and welcome to a weekend version of the Rundown, where we'll once again be collecting the best of the past week's freestyle and freeski content in once convenient location for your casual scrolling pleasure. From pre-lockdown Perisher to the water ramps of Kazakhstan and everywhere in between, we're bringing the goods.
First things first, we cannot emphasize enough how stoked we are to be kicking the season off at the Big Air Chur FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Cup on October 22nd. The musical acts have been announced and the rider registrations are in (including the likes of Ailing Eillen Gu, Kelly Sildaru, Tatalina Anastasa, Birk Ruud, Kim Gubser, Henrik Harlaut, and many, many more), and we're counting down the days until we kick off the 2021/22 World Cup season...
Now straight into what might be our favourite clip of the week, as Sami Ortlieb dropped the incredible "Manövers" clip a few days ago where he and his crew have brought together freeskiing and stop-motion animation for a four minute jaw-dropper. Check out the full video further below...
Second favourite clip of the week? Probably this season edit from 11-year-old Melvin Seliberg of Sweden, who goes absolutely buck for four and a half minutes all over his home resort of Klappen (and a couple other spots). Seriously, this kid is the truth...
Yowzers.
Alright, after all that heat let's cool it down a little bit with a nice refreshing dip, courtesy of Noe Roth, who takes his Almaty 2021 world champs silver medal-winning aerials form to the cliffs of Ticino...
Meanwhile, Noe's fellow aerials star Ashley Caldwell made an appearance on Doctor Oz dot com, sharing a little insight into what pushes her to be one of the most explosive women in the FIS Freestyle World Cup. Very cool stuff...
A freestyle competition in Kazakhstan in August? Yes indeed, and it's going down this weekend near Oskemen, according to Yulia Galysheva. Looks sweet...
More from Team Kaz, as the aerials squad has been banging out the reps at the unreal aerials training facility in Minsk. Looking good, squad...
Ah what the heck, here's one more aerials snapshot, with Winter Vinecki in fine form at Utah Olympic Park a few days ago as the US team gears up for Beijing 2022...
Ok, we kind of lied...one more aerials-related post, this time from Sochi 2014 silver medallist David Morris, who picked one heck of a nice spot to propose to his girlfriend...er, fiancé, we should say now. Congrats, David and Chrissy!
While Mr. Morris' post shows us that there was clearly some good times happening in Australia last week, the country has gone into a pretty serious Covid lockdown in the last few days, which is a bummer for the likes of Britt Cox, Jakara Anthony and Matt Graham, who were celebrating their return to training just a week ago.
Hopefully the Aussie squad finds a way to stay on snow, because things were looking sweet for them there in Perisher...
No snow no problem though, for Tess Johnson and the US moguls team. Like their aerials counterparts, they are on site in Utah, where Tess styled one out and then cheesed for the camera a couple days ago...
Over in the world of ski cross, it's looking like the Swiss team is getting serious ahead of this all-important Olympic season. Fanny Smith, for one, is FOCUSED...
Meanwhile, Ryan Regez is looking dapper and amping up for on-snow sessions in Saas Fee...
Over in North America the Canadian SX team just wrapped up dryland camp in Whistler, where Carson Cook gave as a little look behind the scenes...
His teammate Britt Phelan, meanwhile, was flashing back to faster times on snow with this clip from training in Idre Fjall a couple of season ago...
We've seen a lot of unreal shred content from Aspen 2021 slopestyle World Champ Colby Stevenson this summer, but it turns out he's a beast off snow too, ripping it on the mountain bike and stunting in the river in this "two-day summer vacay" clip. Jealous, f'real...
And here he is on snow, just because we can't resist posting one of these when they come thru the feed...
Sticking with freeskiing as we wind our way toward the end of this week's Rundown, here's Woodsy throwing it back to good times in Stubai with back-to-back 5's, just dripping in style...
Speaking of Stubai, registration is open for the first slopestyle World Cup of the season, and much like with the Chur big air, we cannot WAIT to see the freeski field dropping in on this one from 17-20 November...
One more feelgood freeski throwback, this time from the Italian team and Elisa Nakab. Big vibe on this one...
Shoutout to Eillen Gu, who just keeps taking things up a notch every time we check in on her. The latest? A partnership with TIFFANY, of all things. Freeskiing x Tiffany, who woulda thunk it?
Ok, we'll wrap this week's Rundown up now with a check-in at Zermatt, where some of the world's best are up high on the glacier enjoying the sun and slush, including Ferdinand Dahl, who put together this real nice, chilled-out edit to smooth you through the rest of the weekend...
As always, thanks for rolling through the Rundown with us again this week. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and we'll catch you back here again in a few days.
