After months of thrills and spills, the Moguls and Aerials World Cup season is now set for its final showdown.

There is perhaps no better location to end the year on a high, than at the location that will host the Olympic Games in less than a year’s time.

In Livigno, fans and followers will see more than just world-class action.

The remaining Crystal Globes that have yet to be decided – the women’s Moguls, men’s Dual Moguls as well as the Aerials titles – will also be determined.

Women’s Moguls title down to the wire

In Moguls, a mere few points separate the top two contenders. Jaelin Kauf (USA), who has already locked in the first titles of her career by taking the Dual Moguls and Overall Moguls Cup, is in the lead for the Moguls prize.

But not by much.

Perrine Laffont (FRA), the 26-year-old star who returned to the World Cup circuit this season after a year away like she had never left, is just six points behind. This, despite skipping the Almaty stop last week, a testament to her consistency and quality all season.

For the men, there is similarly just one more Crystal Globe up for grabs. The tussle is between two familiar rivals – Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) and Ikuma Horishima (JPN).

Horishima, last season’s champion, needs an outstanding showing in Livigno to keep his hopes of retaining his title alive.

Kingsbury, meanwhile, has a good chance of making it a hat-trick this season and claim his 29th career Crystal Globe.

Peel, Qi looking to finish Aerials season on a high

Meanwhile, in Aerials, Australian veteran Laura Peel (AUS) is in a good position to finish what has been a stellar season on a high in Italy.

After picking up four wins and many more consistently high-scoring triples, the 35-year-old has put herself in line for this season’s top prize. She sits 78 points ahead of 2022 Olympic champion Xu Mengtao (CHN).

If Peel succeeds, It would be her third career Crystal Globe, and a first since 2021.

In the men’s contest, reigning Olympic champion Qi Guangpu (CHN) is poised to retain his title, but needs a good showing in Italy to ensure that. For Noe Roth (SUI), who is currently second, 85 points behind, the Cup remains there for the taking.

Given all that is at stake, one can be assured the skiing at Livigno will be one to behold and just a taste of what is to come at Milan-Cortina.

But beyond titles and points, athletes will also be looking to build form in Italy. After all, the World Championships are next on the horizon, and the ability to ride into Switzerland with momentum will be an invaluable prize.

Competition will begin on Tuesday with Moguls. Women’s Qualifications start at 09:00 local time, then Men’s Qualifications at 10:45. Finals start at 12:30.

On Wednesday, preliminary rounds for Dual Moguls start at 10:25, before finals start from 12:30.

For the final day of World Cup competition this season on Thursday, aerialists will be in action. Women’s Qualifications start at 09:00 while Men’s Qualifications will be at 11:00. Finals begin from 12:30.
