Preparations for the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships Montafon 2027 are entering their final phase following the last FIS Coordination Group Meeting ahead of the event. Representatives of FIS, Infront, the Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) gathered in Montafon, Austria, on 19-20 October to review progress and coordinate the remaining steps before the championships, scheduled for 6-21 March 2027.

The two-day program began on Monday with the World Broadcaster Meeting, focusing on international television production and the requirements of broadcast partners. Participants also visited key competition venues and operational areas across the region.

Tuesday's FIS Coordination Group Meeting brought together all stakeholders for a comprehensive review of preparations, covering competition organization, venues, ceremonies, accommodation, accreditation, security, volunteer management, medical services and anti-doping operations.

The meeting concluded with positive feedback on the progress made and a shared focus on the final months of preparation.

"With the final Coordination Group Meeting before the World Championships, we have entered the home stretch," said ÖSV Secretary General Jan Überall. "An event of this scale only works when everyone involved cooperates closely and professionally. That is exactly what has characterized the preparations here in Montafon."

31 medal events across six venues

Taking place from 6-21 March 2027, the World Championships will be the largest winter sports event ever staged in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

The competition program features 31 medal events across six venues and four ski areas, bringing together the world's leading athletes in Snowboard Alpine, Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross, Moguls, Dual Moguls, Aerials, and Freeski and Snowboard Park & Pipe.

The championships will also feature several team competitions, including the Mixed Team events, adding another dimension to the program.

Beyond the competitions, the event represents an important opportunity for the Montafon region. Manuel Bitschnau, Managing Director of Montafon Tourismus, highlighted the potential to strengthen Montafon's international profile and further develop the region as a sustainable winter sports destination.

With the final Coordination Group Meeting completed, attention now turns to operational delivery, finalizing arrangements and ensuring that all competition venues and supporting services are ready to welcome athletes, teams, media and spectators in March.

"We have been working intensively on this project for many years, and now, step by step, planning is becoming reality," said Christian Speckle, Montafon 2027 Project Lead. "This final Coordination Group Meeting is therefore a special milestone for us."

With just over four months remaining until the opening of the championships, organizers are confident about the work ahead.

"Everything is on track," Speckle concluded.
