Alessandro Pittin's path into the Nordic Combined World Cup did go a rather unusual way. When he was 15 years old, he was nominated for his Olympic debut in Torino before having started in the World Cup at all. Only after his Olympic appearance, did he make his debut in the World Cup in Ramsau am Dachstein, Austria in 2007.
Pittin, who was born in Tolmezzo, Italy, clearly is the most successful Italian Nordic Combined athlete so far. He won an Olympic bronze medal in Vancouver in 2010 and came close to repeating this result with a fourth place in Sochi in 2014. He can also add two Junior World Championship titles to his resumee. In his World Cup breakthrough season in 2011/12, he managed to win all three competitions of the "super weekend" in Chaux-Neuve in a row, making him the first Italian Nordic Combined athlete to ever win a World Cup.
After two seasons with successive injuries and a "home" World Championship in Val di Fiemme gone bad from Pittin's perspective, he bounced back in the winter of 2014/15, taking an individual silver medal at the World Championships in Falun. He added two more World podium results to his merit list after this liberating success.
In his freetime, Pittin likes to meet up with friends, work on his computer and listen to music. The sports enthusiast is not only interested in Nordic Combined but also plays football and, of course, enjoys cross-country sking. On top of that, Pittin studies Sports Management.
