Martin Fritz repeats COC overall win in 2016/17
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedThe COC series has its old and new overall winner in 2016/17. Austrian Martin Fritz repeated his performance from last year and took the title with a point total of 687 points.
The fight between Fritz and runner-up David Welde from Germany was only decided on the last weekend and with Welde’s fifth position of the last day, the Austrian had a 81-point lead in the end. Two victories on the final weekend catapulted German Tobias Simon to the third position in the overall ranking (467 p.).
A total of 16 events were held at seven venues, with the opening event in Klingenthal, Germany and the finals in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, featuring three events each. The success in the series was divided more variedly this winrer. Continental Cup winners included Germans Maximilan Pfordte and Tobias Simon, Japan’s Go Yamamoto, Truls Johansen and Sindre Ure Søetvik from Norway, France’s Hugo Buffard, Kristjan Ilves (EST) and Lukas Greiderer, Lukas Klapfer, Harald Lemmerer and Martin Fritz (all AUT). Kristjan Ilves and Tobias Simon claimed the most victories with three in total, followed by Lukas Klapfer with two.
In the overall standings, Austria and Norway claimed three of the Top Ten spots each with Martin Fritz winning, Lukas Greiderer on fourth place and Tomaz Druml in sixth. Sindre Ure Søtvik ranked best for the Norwegians with rank five, Truls Johansen was seventh and Harald Riiber eighth. David Welde and Tobias Simon claimed positions two and three for Team Germany, Kristjan Ilves and Go Yamamoto represented Estonia and Japan on positions nine and ten.
Austria won the Nations Cup with 3157 points over Germany’s 2261 and Norway’s 2034 points.
