Nadymova, Mastiev and Barkov win in Nizhniy Tagil
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedWith one week to go until the Continental Cup Finals in Nizhny Tagil, the final stage of the Cup of Russia this week became the test event for the competitions on the upcoming weekend.
"We have lots of snow and weather conditions are good for the competitions. I'm sure that tracks and hills are ready. In January, the inrun track wasn't very good but now we haven't such problems", Niyaz Nabeev says.
"It's an honour for us to host the Continental Cup leaders in Nizhniy Tagil. We're looking forward these starts and of course want to be in a good shape there to encourage our home fans with some good results", Ernest Yahin adds. It should be noted that the leader of Russian team didn't compete in the National Cup but he's going to take part in the COC event later on.
Three Nordic Combined events - two for men and one for ladies - end the Cup of Russia series for the season of 2017/18 in Nizhniy Tagil.
On Saturday, Stefaniya Nadymova (Perm region) had already dominated on K 90 hill. A good jump gave her a whopping (1 minute and 10 seconds) lead on Ekaterina Tikhonova (Perm region). Anastasiya Goncharova (Krasnoyarsk) was 3rd and had to carch up 1 minute and 20 seconds on the 5 km track. But Nadymova proved to be unbeatable and finished first with 24 seconds ahead of Goncharova. Svetlana, Gladikova (Perm region) claimed the third place. Ekaterina Tikhonova wasn't able to keep a podium position and finished sixth.
On the men’ side, athletes from the national team Samir Mastiev (Sverdlovsk region) and Viacheslav Barkov (Moscow) won one event each.
The jumping winner on Saturday was Niyaz Nabeev (Tatarstan). He started 18 seconds ahead of Aleksandr Pashaev (St.-Petersburg) and 24 seconds before Konstantin Abramov (Moscow region). But Mastiev was very strong. Skiing the fastest time, he beat Barkov by 25 seconds. Aleksandr Pashaev crossed the finish line 47 seconds later.
On Sunday, Nabeev won the jumping part again. He was able to keep medal position and finished the 2nd after Viacheslav Barkov. Maxim Kipin (Sverdlovsk region) took bronze position, stormed to the podium from the 14th position and was the fastest man on the track.
With 6 results in top-3 during this season, local hero Maxim Kipin takes the National Russian Cup overall.
