Snow situation not easy but events confirmed in Lahti
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedThe World Championship organisers in Lahti had to solve some challenges imposed by the snow situation for the first Nordic Combined World Cup events of 2017. Lahti is set to host the World Cup weekend as a very last World Championship test event together with a Scandinavian Cup in cross-country skiing. In spite of warm temperatures and low amounts of natural snow in the venue, the organisers confirmed that both events can be held.
At the moment, the two ski jumping hills are prepared and ready for action. The cross-country tracks (two 3.75 km courses for the Scandinavian Cup and the usual 2.5 km loop for Nordic Combined) were prepared as well as possible, using up all snow from the snow storage and as of now, parts of the courses are still without snow.
However, the weather forecast promises very cold temperatures starting from tomorrow onwards and as snow controller Tami Kiuru reported, the snow cannons are ready for action from tomorrow night onwards. The OC has three contingency plans in place to secure all scheduled competitions.
