As the weather forecast hpredicted, icy temperatures were waiting for the athletes competing in the 10km Gundersen event at the FIS Junior Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti (FIN). Nevertheless, the jumping round had a very high level, ending with the top ten athletes within 30 seconds and the top 20 athletes within one minute of each other.

Once again, it was Norway’s Jens Luraas Oftebro, who was in the lead with a jump on 96 metres, followed closely by double Junior World Champion Julian Schmid from Germany and Oftebro's teammate Simen Kvarstad. The cross-country race in -16°C demanded everything from the athletes, some of them really struggling with the cold.

Due to the small gaps after jumping, a large group formed right away, Schmid being in the lead almost throughout the entire race. In the last uphill however, Austria’s Johannes Lamparter, who had been on 5th place after jumping, set an attack that Schmid was not able to match.

In the end the young Austrian celebrated a clear victory ahead of the German, both of them winning their third medal during these Junior World Championships in Lahti. Andreas Skoglund and Italy’s Aaron Kostner were fighting for the bronze medal until the very end, with the better end for the Norwegian. Aleksander Skoglund and Jens Luraas Oftebro completed the top six.
