Geraghty-Moats and Yamamoto win PCRs in Oberwiesenthal
Aug 23, 2019·Nordic CombinedTara Geraghty-Moats and Ryota Yamamoto were the best athletes in the two Provisional Competition Rounds in Oberwiesenthal today.
Geraghty-Moats showed a jump of 98 metres and a point total of 116.5 points had her top the result list with an advantage of 17 seconds at the start. If the PCR has to be used this weekend in case of adverse weather conditions, the American will be followed by Russia’s Stefaniya Nadymova, who jumped to 96 metres. Gyda Westvold Hansen (NOR) was third but would start her race at a respectful distance of one minute behind Geraghty-Moats.
Alpencup winner Annika Sieff was fourth (+1:09), Marte Leinan Lund (+1:12) and Veronica Gianmoena (+1:20) fifth and sixth.
On the men’s side, young Japanese Ryota Yamamoto was the best with a great jump of 105 metres. 136.5 points would put him in the lead of the race by 10 seconds if the PCR has to be used. Yamamoto’s closest pursuers would be his teammates, the brothers Watabe. Akito Claimed the second place with 103 metres (134 points), Yoshito showed 99 metres (128.3 p.) Translated into delays at the start line, this meant +0:33 seconds for Yoshito.
Franz-Josef Rehrl (AUT) ranked fourth, Terence Weber (GER) and Christian Deuschl (AUT) shared the fifth place and would take up their races at +0:46 and +0:52 respectively.
As the Provisional Competition Round does not count as a qualification, all athletes will be able to start in the events on Sunday. Tomorrow, Saturday 24th will feature the first ever Mixed Team event in Nordic Combined.
