One of the biggest Nordic Combined events in the history of the sport is set to take place in Oberhof (GER) this weekend. 22 women from seven nations and 56 men from eleven nations are competing in the 2019 Summer Grand Prix events. They are joined by 36 girls and 79 boys from 15 nations competing in two separate age categories each in the annual Nordic Combined summer Youth Cup.

In a social media campaign, Nordic Combined fans suggested the name of “Summer Super Cup” for this mega-event which brings the German organisers of Oberhof back on the Nordic Combined calendar after an absence of twelve years. Homestead to successful German Nordic Combined athletes like Ronny Ackermann and Tino Edelmann, the Nordic Combined family is happy to welcome Oberhof back into the fold of organisers.

Two Individual Gundersen events for men, two Individual Gundersen event for women and two Individual Gundersen events for the Youth Cup are on schedule in a packed programme which features the HS 70 Wadeberg hill for the Youth Cup and the HS 100 and HS 140 in Oberhof’s Kanzlersgrund for women and men. The cross-country races are held in downtown Oberhof on Saturday and in neighbouring Steinbach-Hallenberg on Sunday. Side events like a bib distribution ceremony and joint Prize Giving ceremonies for adults and young athletes round off the exciting weekend.

While the youth events are wide open and Nordic Combined “wonder woman” Tara Geraghty-Moats (USA) is on a winning streak on two events already, Akito Watabe (JPN) and Franz-Josef Rehrl (AUT) are currently leading the men’s Grand Prix ex aequo. For spectators on location, the weekend promises to be packed with excitement.
