19-year-old Glafira Noskova is a newcomer to Nordic Combined. Even though she was on start in the FIS Youth Cup in Oberstdorf as early as 2014, she only started competing on the highest level of Nordic Combined this winter. Get to know her better in today’s Q&A!

How did you start with skiing / Nordic Combined?

A couple years ago I took part only in special Ski Jumping competitions. But I couldn't achieve very high results there and the chief of our ski school consulted with my personal coach. They both noted I couldn't progress and the change of the sport discipline was necessary. I agreed that it was the way forward.

Why did you pick Nordic Combined as your sport, what fascinates you most about it?

Nordic Combined is the very new thing for me. It's interesting to test myself not only on the hill but in the combination of two disciplines. And this sport has many advantages: I really like the training process, we do many different things. And the most important thing for me is to learn the right skiing technique. I'm like a child who is learning something new, and I am really happy when I achieve my little goals. And I'm not upset after the failures.

What do you have to work harder on, the ski jumping or the cross-country skiing?

I need a lot of training hours on the cross-country track! Of course, the skiing part is much harder for me! I'm a newcomer in Nordic Combined and I have no experience.

Do you have a sports idol/role model (inside or outside of Nordic Combined)?

My role-model in sport is Stephan Kraft. I like his attitude to all aspects of sport. He can win, can focus on the start and accept the defeats. But I also support also all our Russian guys, especially Evgeniy Klimov and Michail Nazarov.

What was your greatest/best/most exciting moment in Nordic Combined so far?

This might sound a bit strange but I think the most important moment in my career has been my ACL injury in autumn 2016. It wasn’t really only all bad. It gave me a very special experience and caused me to develop new values for myself. My attitude to almost all things became different after that. But, of course, I don't advise anybody to repeat my experience. (laughs) We have many other ways to test ourselves and our psychological strength.

What are your goals for the next season?

My main goal is to improve my Cross-Country skiing performance. I'd like to compete more and more and achieve the World Cup level.
