After a fantastic season finale in 2022, the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup returns to Schonach from March 10-12, 2023.

Fans and spectators can look forward to two Individual Gundersen competitions for women and men on the Langenwaldschanze HS100 and in the Wittenbachtal cross-country stadium.

In addition, two highlights are on the program for the men with the traditional Schwarzwaldpokal and the final of the German Trophy.

While last year's winner Jarl Magnus Riiber will not be on start for health reasons, Johannes Lamparter is traveling to the Black Forest in the yellow bib as the Overall World Cup leader and is considered the favorite for a day's win.

Since he is also leading by more than 1 minute in the German Trophy, he will do everything in his power to be the fastest man on the course this weekend in order to defend his lead and collect the trophy and additional prize money that will be awarded for the first time this year.

But the Austrian faces great competition: From his own team strong Ski Jumper Franz-Josef Rehrl still has a chance of winning the German Trophy, while Norway is sending a strong podium candidate into the race even in the absence of Riiber, with Jens Luraas Oftebro. Meanwhile, Olympic champion Joergen Graabak is returning to the World Cup after a Covid infection and a break of several weeks.

On home soil, Germany relies on Julian Schmid, who caused great celebrations in Oberstdorf with a home win. Whether Vinzenz Geiger will be able to start in Schonach after his cold is still open.

For the women, Overall World Cup leader Gyda Westvold Hansen is a top favorite for victory, having won every Individual competition of the season so far.

Nathalie Armbruster wants to prove her skills for Germany and, after 6 podium places in 7 Individual competitions, could write herself in the Black Forest history books with her first World Cup victory in front of her home crowd.

The freshly crowned Junior World Champion Annika Sieff from Italy also has her eye on the podium and has great chances of a top placement, while, for Austria, all hopes are on Lisa Hirner, who has already reached the Individual podium three times this season.
