Qualification win for local hero Robert Johansson
Mar 08, 2019·Ski JumpingLocal hero Robert Johansson was the best on the first day of the Raw Air 2019 on the Holmenkollen in Oslo. With his qualification win ahead of Poland's Kamil Stoch and Slovenia's Timi Zajc, Johansson now also leads the overall ranking of the Raw Air, which consists of a total of 16 jumps.
Johansson jumped on 132 m (140.6 points) on the HS 134 in Oslo. This performance earned him a lead of 4.5 points over last year's overall winner Kamil Stoch (130 m; 136.1 points) and Timi Zajc (129.5 m; 135.1 points).
With Stefan Kraft of Austria in fourth and the two Japanese Yukiya Sato and Ryoyu Kobayashi in fifth and sixth, three other top athletes are only 10 points behind the current leader Robert Johansson. Ten points are practically nothing, considering that there are still 15 jumps left, but nevertheless, Johansson is now a great starting position for this Raw Air.
Michael Hayboeck, Markus Eisenbichler, Jakub Wolny and Stephan Leyhe came in on the places seven to ten and are also not much more than ten points behind the top-ranked athlete. The race for the prize money of € 100 000.- is in full swing.
In a large field of 74 competitors, 24 athletes failed to make the cut in today's qualification and have no chance anymore to achieve a top result in the third edition of the Raw Air. Dimitriy Vassiliev (RUS), Anders Fannemel (NOR), Pius Paschke (GER), Anze Semenic (SLO), Kevin Bickner (USA) and local hero Halvor Egner Granerud are among those who failed to make the cut for Sunday's competition.
A team event will be held on the Holmenkollen on Saturday (2:30 pm CET). The points scored in both competition rounds count for the overall ranking of the Raw Air.
