Team Austria wins team event in Lahti (FIN)
Mar 25, 2023·Ski JumpingDaniel Tschofenig, Michael Hayböck, Jan Hörl and Stefan Kraft won the Ski Jumping Team World Cup in Lahti (FIN) on Saturday.
The Austrian quartet secured the victory in a commanding manner ahead of Slovenia and Poland and thus extended the lead in the Nations Cup to the first chaser Norway to 1,094 points (6162 - 5068) with four competitions still open.
The Austrians, who had already taken a clear lead at half-time, claimed their second victory in the fourth team event this season with a 26.2-point advantage over the World Champions from Slovenia. The Polish quartet was 35.0 points behind the team of headcoach Andreas Widhölzl, of whom Jan Hörl showed the longest jump with 130.0 m in the second round and Stefan Kraft collected the most points (278.7).
Stefan Kraft explained after the competition: "It was really cool at the end when you know you have almost 30 points ahead. But it's not that easy because you still have to keep the tension high. It's easy to slip up, and you can't afford to do that. We really had a cool competition today. The trip here has already paid off."
Teams from Norway and Germany finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The most individual points were collected by Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud (288.9) ahead of Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi (284.8) whose team did not finish higher than 7th place today despite Kobayashi's strong performance. In front of the Japanese team Switzerland finished in 6th place.
Granerud is therefore also the top favorite for the individual competition on Sunday. Besides Granerud, Ryoyu Kobayashi, Slovenia's Anze Lanisek and Stefan Kraft are at the top of the list of favorites.
Tomorrow
Next weekend, the three-part season finale - including a team event - is still on the schedule at the Planica (SLO) flying hill.
