Daniel Huber leads Team Austria to victory

The outstanding Daniel Huber made the difference in the team competition on Saturday in Planica (SLO).

The team from Austria (Daniel Tschofenig, Michael Hayboeck, Stefan Kraft and Daniel Huber) succeeded after just one round ahead of the teams from Slovenia (Lovro Kos, Domen Prevc, Timi Zajc and Peter Prevc) and Norway (Robert Johansson, Benjamin Oestvold, Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang).

During the break, the wind on the HS 240 meter flying hill became too strong, so the jury decided not to hold a second round.

Over 20,000 enthusiastic spectators witnessed the second day of Planica 2024.

The outstanding athlete of the day was Austria's Daniel Huber. The 31-year-old flew to the day's best distance of 244 meters and thus secured victory for the ÖSV quartet. "It was very enjoyable again. It's extremely important to be a bit sensitive in the middle section. But when the pressure comes, you can go full throttle. It's a balancing act, but I'm managing it very well at the moment," explained Huber to ORF.

Huber had already taken second place in the individual competition on Friday, narrowly beaten by local hero Peter Prevc.

Behind the top three, the teams from Japan and Poland finished in 4th and 5th place, leaving the German team in 6th place ahead of the teams from the USA and Italy. The German team obviously ran out of steam shortly before the end of the season. The best athlete from Stefan Horngacher's squad was, as yesterday, Pius Paschke.

However, the mood among the fans was dampened by the crashes of Italian Giovanni Bresadola and double champion Timi Zajc from Slovenia.

Bresadola was initially diagnosed with a knee injury, while Zajc took part in the award ceremony with an arm sling after his fall after flying 242.5 meters.

Bresadola and Zajc will not compete in the last competition of the winter on Sunday.

On Sunday there will be a showdown between overall World Cup winner Stefan Kraft and Peter Prevc in the battle for the Ski Flying World Cup.

Kraft has not been coping with the hill in Planica as usual so far. In the Austrian team, Kraft achieved the shortest distance today, while Peter Prevc collected the most points for the team from Slovenia.

Kraft's lead over Prevc is 34 points ahead of tomorrow's final.

Sunday's competition starts at 9:30 am.
