The second PSL Mixed Team competition of the 2019/20 season took place on Sunday to wrap up an exciting weekend of the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup action on the new venue in Piancavallo (ITA).

Straight from Saturday’s individual PSL event that saw Julie Zogg (SUI) and Andreas Prommegger (AUT) walk away with big wins, the world’s best athletes were back in racing mode on Sunday for what was another prime display of top-level snowboarding in a thrilling team format competition.

After another intensive day of racing on the challenging slope in Piancavallo, it was Ramona Theresia Hofmeister and Stefan Baumeister of Germany, who stormed their way through to take their second win of the season.

Hofmeister and Baumeister raced against the likes of Korea’s Sangho Lee and Haerim Jeong, their German teammates Selina Joerg and Elias Huber, Russia’s Natalia Soboleva and Dmitry Loginov and finally the home crowd favourites Nadya Ochner and Daniele Bagozza.

But again in the big final, Hofmeister showed her best riding and gained as much as .7 sec advantage over Ochner. That left Baumeister with a relatively easy task of keeping the advantage until the finish line during his run. Dropping with a significant time loss Bagozza did his best to close the gap, but the Italian rider soon risked it too much and went down in the first part of the course. With his opponent out, Baumeister confidently cruised down for another huge win for the German team.

“We’re so happy to be here,” said Hofmeister, “It’s amazing to win the second event of the season and. The slope was really good today, so big thanks to all the organisers for hosting such a great event.”

Ochner and Bogazza finished the competition in second place, pleasing the local fans with a strong performance on home venue in Piancavallo.

Third place on the day went to Austria’s veterans Claudia Riegler and Andreas Prommegger, who won the small final matchup against Russia’s Natalia Soboleva and Dmitry Loginov.

In the overall team classification Hofmeister and Baumeister have 2000 points after two competitions, with Riegler and Prommegger following up in second place with 1400 points and Ochner and Bagozza rounding out the top-3 with 1300 points.

The FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup tour will be heading to Austria, where in two weeks time Lackenhof will host a double competition with PGS individual race scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 13, and the PGS Mixed Team event following up on Friday, February 14.
