Monday Mix - April 27, 2020
Apr 27, 2020·Snowboard AlpineEven as we enter what is, for some places, the seventh week of lockdown in this ongoing pandemic, the work goes on here at FIS, with preparations for the 2020/21 season and beyond continuing even as we keep an eye on the coronavirus situation as it develops around the world. While it's still far too early to predict what the effects of all of this might be on next season's FIS Snowboard World Cup calendar - or even for the 2020 South American Cup, scheduled to begin in August - plans are being put in place for any potential outcome.
Over the past week online meetings with both the Zhangjiakou 2021 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships and the Bakuriani 2023 world champs organizers went down, and on both fronts an impressive amount of work has been done in preparation for the biennial event. And, as the Zhangjiakou event will be a warm up for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, we're all hoping hard that things have stabilized by February and that we can look forward to the most important event of the season.
With all that out of the way, what we're really here for today is a little taste of the week that was on the social media channels. So, without further ado, welcome to this week's Mix, where we start things off with Matty McCormick of GBR providing exactly the kind of content we need to pass away another long day of lockdown - 11 minutes of raw follow cam clips through the Laax's epic P60 terrain park.
Somewhat surprisingly, the most epic video that came down the pipeline last week was from the sand dunes of Peru, where 4x sandboarding world champion and Beijing 2022 Olympic hopeful Dito Victor Chavez revealed the majesty of the Huacachina sand slopes. If it weren't for the colour of the piste it would be hard to tell that this wasn't a snowy, alpine resort. This looks insanely fun...
Staying south of the equator for a second, please enjoy this perfect cab dub 12 from Chilean ripper Inaqui Lopez...

PyeongChang 2018 Olympic SBX silver medallist Jarryd Hughes took a little walk down memory lane himself last week, revisiting his epic, last-second, come-from-behind victory at the X Games from back in 2016. What a finish...
Sticking with snowboard cross for another minute, our friends over at SBX Life continue their excellent interview series this week with the woman who reigns supreme as the best in the world right now, as PyeongChang 2018 Olympic champion and reigning crystal globe winner Michela Moioli is set to sit down for a digital chat this Wednesday...
And hopefully you were able to catch Alexander Payer's talk with another one of the raddest and baddest women in snowboarding, as reigning PGS and alpine overall globe winner Ramona Theresia Hofmeister joined him for an interview yesterday on Instagram Live...
Speaking of Ms. Hofmeister, she showcased what is a pretty incredible contribution to the efforts to fight COVID-19 in her home of Germany last week, as she has been spending some of her free time sewing masks for the use by care facility workers. Bravo for being proactive and making a difference, Ramona...
Of course, entertaining the locked-down masses is also a contribution in its own right, and Pat Burgener continues to do just that, week in and week out - although we are getting a little concerned that he's maybe getting a little too weird with the direction his content is going.
On second though, nahhh...this is exactly the right amount of weird.
Ooooh, Liam Brearly is going to be talking to Lyon Farrell TODAY, beginning at 4:00EST/22:00CET. A good chance to get a peak into the minds of two of the best young rippers on the planet, here...
Last Wednesday was Earth Day, and snowboarders around the world marked the occassion with some beautiful tributes to the planet that allows us to shred. We've collected a few faves here...
And we'll end things off this week with a little #stayhome entertainment inspo, first from halfpipe legend Queralt Castellet (ESP), who's been working on her board control from the comfort of her living room...
And finally from Sebastien Toutant (CAN), who got in on the Rube Goldberg machine action with this impressive success...
Yeewwww...that's all, folks.
Stay safe, stay sane, and see ya next Monday!
