Dalmasso & Bagozza end season in style with mixed team win
Mar 10, 2024·Snowboard AlpineThe 2023-24 FIS Alpine Snowboard World Cup reached its conclusion on Sunday with the mixed team parallel race in Winterberg, Germany. Hot conditions brought tricky, icy snow for the riders as they paired up to represent their countries.
Lucia Dalmasso and Daniele Bagozza (ITA) took the stop spot on the day with a set of solid runs. Dalmasso used a late charge to pull off a comeback in the quarterfinals to keep their title hopes alive.
The Italian pair then dispatched their teammates Elisa Caffont and Maurizio Bormolini (ITA) in the semifinals. They used another set of strong runs to win the big final against the Slovenian pair of Zan Kosir and Gloria Kotnik (SLO).
“It was very good riding today, I hope to ride next season with Daniele,” Dalmasso said.
It was a magical run for the Slovenian team as they pulled off multiple upsets to finish second. In the quarterfinals they knocked out the mighty duo of Andreas Prommegger and Sabine Schoeffmann (AUT).
The top Austrian team had won the two previous team races this season. They did not leave empty handed on Sunday as they did just enough to claim the mixed team crystal globe for the season by 36 points over Dalmasso/Bagozza in the final mixed team standings.
“We enjoy it a lot. It is a bit more relaxed, you can trust in your partner. You can share the emotions and that is really nice,” Schoeffmann said.
It’s back-to-back mixed team titles for Prommegger (AUT) who won last season with Daniela Ulbing (AUT).
“The globe means a lot to me, racing together is always fun. Having a crystal globe in the hands at the end of the season means you did something right, and we did a lot right so we can enjoy,” Prommegger said.
The Italian duo of Bormolini and Caffont took third on the day with a win in the small final. They also finish the season in third in the mixed team standings.
German star Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) could not add to her trophy haul as she and her teammate could not do enough to advance past the quarterfinals.
Dual sport star Ester Ledecka (CZE) won all three races she entered this season on the Alpine Snowboard tour including Saturday’s PSL event in Winterberg. However, she could not do enough as her and her Czech teammate were knocked out in the first round of the knockouts on Sunday.
The race marks the end to another thrilling FIS Alpine Snowboard World Cup season. Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) was the star on the women’s side taking all three individual crystal globes in the same season for the first time in her decorated career.
Benjamin Karl (AUT) had another impeccable season to add to his storied career, picking up the overall and PGS globes. Lee Sangho (KOR) clinched the PSL globe with his win on Saturday.
The riders will now rest and begin their offseason training for next season which is due to begin in December.
