The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has welcomed the IOC Executive Board's decision to expand Snowboard Alpine's Olympic programme with the addition of the Snowboard Mixed Team Parallel event for the Alpes 2030 Olympic Winter Games. Alongside the new team event, Parallel Giant Slalom will remain on the programme, giving the discipline two Olympic medal events once again.

The decision marks a major step forward for Snowboard Alpine, reflecting the discipline's continued growth and the success of its World Cup circuit and Olympic competitions in recent years.

The addition of the Snowboard Mixed Team Parallel event is a significant milestone for the discipline. Already a regular part of the FIS Snowboard World Cup calendar, the format brings a unique team element to the traditional head-to-head racing, adding a relay-style dynamic that has quickly become one of the most exciting parts of the Snowboard Alpine programme.

"We're delighted to see the Mixed Team Parallel become part of the Olympic programme," said FIS Snowboard Alpine Race Director Uwe Beier. "It adds a unique national team character to our sport and creates an exciting relay format that athletes and spectators have really embraced on the World Cup. It is a fantastic step forward for Snowboard Alpine and another opportunity for our athletes to showcase the sport on the Olympic stage."

The announcement comes after another landmark season for Snowboard Alpine, highlighted by a successful Olympic competition at Milano Cortina 2026 and a World Cup campaign that once again demonstrated the discipline's strength, competitiveness and global reach.

"This is, of course, very positive news for all of us," Beier said. "But first of all, it is a satisfying decision because we believe we have delivered another outstanding season, another outstanding Olympic event and the World Cup held to a very high standard on a truly global calendar."

Throughout the 2025/26 season, Snowboard Alpine visited venues across Europe, North America and Asia, bringing together athletes from an increasingly diverse range of nations. From established powerhouses to emerging programmes, the discipline continues to expand its international footprint while maintaining one of the strongest competitive standards in winter sport.

Milano Cortina 2026 provided another important milestone. Held on the longest Olympic Parallel Giant Slalom course to date, the competitions delivered spectacular racing in front of passionate crowds under perfect conditions, earning widespread praise from athletes, teams and Olympic stakeholders alike.

"We personally feel this was the peak of our Olympic Parallel events so far," Beier said. "Everybody involved put an enormous amount of effort into delivering the competition. We had fantastic conditions, incredible crowds and some of the best emotions we have experienced at one of our venues."

The success of the Olympic event was no coincidence. Months of preparation, close collaboration with the organisers and careful planning resulted in a competition that showcased the sport at its very best and underlined its value within the Olympic Winter Games programme.

The discipline also continues to benefit from a healthy athlete pathway, with increasing participation from emerging nations and a new generation of athletes already making an impact at the highest level.

"We really see a lot of young athletes coming into the sport," Beier said. "If you look at the podiums across the World Cup, World Championships and Olympic Games, you can see athletes from different generations competing at the very highest level. At the same time, the development level is very strong, with hundreds of young snowboard alpine athletes competing at the Junior World Championships in China alone. Across Asia and many Eastern countries, there is a lot of positive momentum for Snowboard Alpine."

With two Olympic medal events once again on the programme and continued growth at every level of the sport, the Snowboard Alpine community can look ahead with confidence to another exciting Olympic chapter at Alpes 2030.
