The Freeski/Snowboard Park & Pipe portion of the Bakuriani 2023 FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships is set to get underway this weekend, with men’s snowboard slopestyle qualifications leading the way on Friday, followed by men’s freeski slopestyle qualifications on Saturday.

After that we’ll see women’s slope qualies for both snowboard and freeski on Sunday, before snowboard finals on Monday and freeski finals on Tuesday.

While schedule changes are possible through the days leading up to finals next week due to gusty winds and occasional snow through the three days days of training thus far, better weather in the forecast for Friday and beyond have officials, organisers and athletes alike hopeful for a smooth running of the programme through the coming days.

When it has been less windy, the Schneestern-designed-and-built Bakuriani 2023 slopestyle course has been running very well, receiving praise for its design and showing a whole lot of promise as a top-notch, World Champs-worthy competition venue. How everything pans out with the weather through the coming days will determine if the venue - and the competitions set to go down on it - live up to potential, but the weather forecast is improving and hopes are high for an exceptional set of events.

Once slopestyle is in the books next week it’s on to halfpipe, where snowboard qualifications will go down on Wednesday, 1 March, freeski qualies on Thursday, 2 March, snowboard finals on Friday, 3 March, and freeski shutting down the Bakuriani 2023 pipe on Saturday, 4 March.

Mixed in with the halfpipe action will be qualifications for World Championships big air, with the freeskiers fighting for their spot in the finals on Friday, and the snowboarders on Saturday. Finals for both disciplines will take place on Sunday, 5 March 2023 - freeski in the morning, snowboard in the afternoon - and the conclusion of the snowboard big air event will mark the end of all competitions at Bakuriani 2023.

On the snowboard side of things we’re looking forward to the likes of Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (NZL), Marcus Kleveland (NOR), Anna Gasser (AUT), Mons Roisland (NOR), Tess Coady (AUS), Chris Corning (USA) and Laurie Blouin (CAN) leading the whole slew of World Championships and Olympic medallists set to drop in over the coming days.

Over on the freeski side of things we’ll be looking to slopestyle stars like Andri Ragettli (SUI), Mathilde Gremaud (SUI), Birk Ruud (NOR), Tess Ledeux (FRA), Jesper Tjader (SWE), Johanne Killi (NOR), Matej Svancer (AUT), Megan Oldham (CAN) and Mac Forehand (USA), amongst many others, to get freeski action in Bakuriani underway with some oomph.
